Along the course of the
“fiumara” special basins were dug out where the hemp and linen,
which was grown particularly in Lampazzone and Barbalaconi, were laid
out to macerate in the stream water for eight days. After this operation they were dried in the sun and then threshed with a
wooden stick before being put through a mangle and then
spun on a spindle and a distaff.
Finally they were woven by hand on a wooden loom which could be
found on the ground floor of almost every home until the fifties. |
