Nicotera stands on a cliff,
rising out of a rocky ridge like a crib. It has its acropolis in the
eighteenth century castle of the Ruffo family. The
well-preserved historical centre dates back to the eighteenth century. The
patrician houses and the imposing buildings rich in precious decorations
are extremely impressive. In the Archaeological
Museum (tel. 0963 82175), situated in the Ruffo castle, there are some
interesting archaeological remains, while in the Diocesan Museum of Sacred
Art silver, jewellery, furnishings and paintings can be admired. |
