Its houses, built on the
promontory, slope gently down towards the sea. There are characteristic,
little medieval alleyways and a majestic castle, built by Ferdinand of
Aragon in 1486, where Gioacchino Murat was shot dead in 1815. Along
the beach of Piedigrotta the splendid church, dug out of the tufa of a
natural grotto, can be admired. One can visit
the Museum of the Sea (tel. 0963 534903) and enjoy its famous,
locally-produced ice-creams.
