Tropea stands on a promontory
with a sheer drop to the sea and is famous for its crystal-clear waters
and white sands. It is also an elegant
historical centre and its urban structures, dating from the XVII and XVIII
centuries are still preserved intact. There are many important buildings
of historical and artistic importance and numerous churches including the
Norman-style cathedral. The private Collection
of the Toraldo family (entrance on request, telephone 0963 61388) includes
the early Christian discoveries made in the second half of the twentieth
century. A municipal Museum is about to be
opened.
