This tall, jagged,
rectangular-based spur which stretches from the Calabrian Appenines to the Tyrrheanian Sea
directly opposite the Aeolian Islands, is geographically known as the promontory of Capo
Vaticano. It divides the Gulfs of Santa
Eufemia and Gioia Tauro. The Commune of
Ricadi lies on the promontory, covering an area of 2,230 hectares at an altitude of 237
metres above sea level and has a population of just over 4,000 inhabitants. Tropea to the north, Joppolo to the south and
Spilinga and Drapia to the east are the well-known little towns which surround it. |
